In the field of scrap steel recycling, what are the differences in applicable scenarios between hydraulic gantry shears, alligator shears, and tiger-head shears

In the scrap steel recycling sector, there are distinct differences in the application scenarios among hydraulic gantry shears, alligator shears, and tiger-head shears, as outlined below:

 1. Processing Scale
- Hydraulic Gantry Shears
Primarily suited for large-scale scrap steel recycling stations and steel mills, these shears feature large material boxes (typically over 5 meters in size), enabling high-efficiency handling of massive quantities of scrap steel. They can cold-cut various specifications of steel profiles, metal plates, and scrap metal structural components into required sizes.
- Alligator Shears
Classified as small-scale equipment, they are ideal for individual operators and small scrap metal recycling stations with low to moderate shearing volumes. They support manual or automatic operation, making them suitable for small and medium-sized scrap steel processing and recycling sites.
- Tiger-Head Shears
Designed for the waste recycling industry and small-to-medium steel mills, these shears can cold-cut scrap metal of various cross-sectional shapes, providing feedstock for smelting.

 2. Types of Scrap Steel
- Hydraulic Gantry Shears
Capable of processing a wide range of scrap metals, including light and thin steel materials, steel bars, steel plates, nickel plates, round steel, steel pipes, scrap copper, scrap iron, light metal structural components, metal briquettes, car bodies, aluminum alloys, copper materials, iron filings, and steel wires. They can also handle large-scale scrap materials like cars (end-of-life vehicles) by first compressing the waste into smaller sizes using side extrusion cylinders before shearing.
- Alligator Shears
Suitable for various shapes of steel profiles and metal structures, such as channel steel, I-beams, coal mine light rails, angle steel, car dismantled car frames, rebar, ship plates, common plates (up to 30 mm thick), and round steel (600–700 mm in diameter). They are widely used in metal recycling plants, scrap car dismantling yards, and smelting and casting industries for cold-cutting and processing various metal materials.
- Tiger-Head Shears
Mainly used for cold-cutting scrap metal with various cross-sections, such as round steel, square steel, channel steel, angle steel, I-beams, steel plates, and steel pipes. They are particularly suitable for processes like straightening shaft components and press-fitting shaft kits.

 3. Operation Methods
- Hydraulic Gantry Shears
Typically require large grab cranes or overhead cranes to transport scrap metal into the material box. A pushing mechanism then drives the scrap steel under the shearing blade for cutting. The length of the sheared scrap steel can be automatically controlled via a computer system.
- Alligator Shears
Generally require manual material loading, offering flexible operation with selectable manual or automatic modes based on actual needs.
- Tiger-Head Shears
Similar to gantry shears in operation, they use a "guillotine"-style cutting mechanism. Scrap material is usually loaded into the material box via a steel grab crane or overhead crane, and a pusher mechanism feeds the scrap steel for shearing. They can also automatically control the length of the cut material.
