What are the components of the Japanese-style clamp, which is an attachment for excavators
The Japanese-style clamps used as attachments for excavators are usually composed of the following parts:

1. Jaw part
- Fixed jaw: It is the main part that directly contacts the clamped object. Generally, it has a relatively wide shape and a certain curvature or a special design to better fit the surface of the clamped object. For example, when clamping a log, the shape of the fixed jaw can hold the log well and provide a stable clamping force.
- Movable jaw: It is used in conjunction with the fixed jaw. It is connected to other parts of the clamp through a connecting shaft or a similar structure. Under the action of a hydraulic system or other driving devices, it can move in an opening and closing manner relative to the fixed jaw, thus achieving the actions of clamping and releasing the object.
2. Connection and driving part
- Connecting shaft: It is used to connect the fixed jaw and the movable jaw, enabling the movable jaw to rotate around the connecting shaft, ensuring the flexibility and stability of the jaw movement. At the same time, it is also a key component for transmitting force.
- Hydraulic cylinder: As the power driving component of the clamp, under the action of the pressure of the hydraulic oil, it pushes the piston to move, and then drives the opening and closing of the movable jaw. The parameters of the hydraulic cylinder, such as size, stroke, and working pressure, determine the clamping force and working range of the clamp.
- Hydraulic pipeline and control system: It includes hydraulic oil pipes, hydraulic valves, etc. It is used to transport the pressure oil generated by the hydraulic system to the hydraulic cylinder, and at the same time control the flow direction and pressure of the hydraulic oil to achieve precise operation of the clamp, such as controlling the clamping speed and force of the clamp.
3. Fixing and installation part
- Fixing rod or mounting bracket: It is used to fix the clamp on the arm or other working devices of the excavator. It usually has high strength and good stability and can withstand various forces that the clamp is subjected to during the working process. The connection method between the fixing rod or mounting bracket and the excavator may be in various forms such as bolt connection and pin connection.
- Quick-change device: Some Japanese-style clamps are equipped with a quick-change device, which is convenient for quickly installing and disassembling the clamp with the working device of the excavator, improving work efficiency and enabling the excavator to quickly change different attachments to adapt to different work tasks.
4. Auxiliary and protection part
- Anti-slip teeth or gaskets: They are installed on the inner surface of the jaws to increase the friction between the jaws and the clamped object, prevent the object from slipping during the clamping process, and improve the reliability of clamping. The materials are usually rubber, silicone, or other materials with high friction.
- Overload protection device: When the pressure borne by the clamp exceeds the set value, the overload protection device will be activated to prevent the clamp and the hydraulic system of the excavator from being damaged due to excessive pressure, and protect the safe operation of the equipment.
- Buffer device: When the jaws close, the buffer device can play a buffering role, reducing the impact force between the jaws and the clamped object, avoiding damage to the clamped object, and at the same time reducing the impact load on the clamp and the structure of the excavator.
